The city of Chennai witnessed the heaviest downpour of the century in December 2015 by receiving 310% excess on account of the annual northeast monsoon that used to quench the thirst of the coromandel Coast region that comprises the states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The death tolls rise beyond 250 and more than 1.8 million people were displaced as a result to the flood and water logging in most of the areas. The flights are cancelled due to the water logging occurred in Chennai Airport due to the flooded Adyar river nearby. The schools and colleges closed since Diwali holidays remained shut down indefinitely and many inmates are stranded in hostels without food and water.
