2014 witnessed an historical and iconic movement called Kiss of Love, against the moral policing, which is one of the curse in modern India. Various incidents of moral policing are reported all over India by the media and there are several other incidents being happened which are never get reported as the victims might even ashamed or fearing the assailants.
The sudden cause for such a movement was after the youth wing of a national party attacked and vandalized a cafe in Calicut called ‘Downtown’. A news channel broadcasted a video of a couple kissing in the cafe which raged the religious hypocrites and the social immoral. Supports and kickbacks came from all parts of the society. Actor Joy mathew, director Ashik Abu, organizations like DYFI, Youth Congress etc were the few amongst who spoke against moral policing. Then a group of youngsters organized this innovative protest at Cochin on November 2, 2014. Later on December 7, Kozhikode also witnessed the same protest. Fortunately or unfortunately these strikes ended when some people ran into the gathering and started beating the protesting activists along with the police.
The ‘Kiss of Love’ protest spread allover India very soon. Several campuses like JNU, EFLU Hyderabad, IIT Chennai etc accepted this protest. Here we bring the images to major Kiss of Love events.
